Call 707.947.3002 for assistance with the bikes, stations or kiosks

Oxbow Big

Call 911 or local police if you have an accident or the bike is stolen. Once you have a police report and the immediate emergency is over, please call us.

Do not ride farther than you can ride back. If you are in a situation where you are unable to ride back to your station, your only option will be to call a local taxi and specifically request a vehicle with a bike rack. The front wheels on these bikes require special tools to remove; thus, with both wheels attached, the bikes will not fit in the back of most cars. A list of taxi companies that have vehicles equipped with bike racks is available here

Frequently Asked Questions

Safety

How old do you have to be to rent and use a bike?

You must be at least 18 year old to rent from Spinway NorCal. Riders under the age of 18 may be accompanied by a parent or guardian who agrees to the Waiver on the behalf of the minor. These are hefty bikes that are not appropriate for smaller or less confident young riders. The minimum recommended rider height with the seat adjusted to its lowest height setting is 4’-10”.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

California law requires all bicycle riders under the age of 18 to wear an approved helmet while riding. Note that helmets are not available at our Oxbow Market (Napa) station.

How can I be safe on the road and recommend routes?

There are inherent risks of bicycle riding.  There is no 100% safe route; however, we take all precautions to recommend the safest routes in the area.

We recommend riding on bike paths and roads with a designated bike lane whenever possible. Be realistic about your bike handling skills, your experience riding in traffic, the weather, road conditions and your own level of comfort and understand that you are choosing to ride at your own risk. Spinway NorCal disclaims all responsibility or liability for the safety, accuracy, content or completeness of the directions, maps, cue sheets and route information.

What are the rules of the road or bike paths?

When riding on the road, always ride WITH the flow of traffic. Before turning, use arm signals: put your left arm straight out to signal your intention to turn left; bend your left arm at a 90-degree angle to signal a right turn.

On dedicated bike paths, always stay to the right and pass other trail users on the left. Alert other trail users of your presence with your handy-dandy bell or a friendly "On your left!" Be mindful not not to startle people or animals.

How it Works

Where can I find a bike?

Visit our Locations page to see all of our locations in Napa Valley and Marin.

When are the bikes available?

Bikes are available from 5am to 9pm daily. Note: Bikes are not equipped with lights and it is against the law to ride a bike 30 minutes before dusk to 30 minutes after dawn.

Can I reserve a bike? Do you have an app?

All bikes are first-come, first-serve. We do not have a app or website widget that shows real-time bike availability. If you want to reserve bikes, we recommend reserving a bike rental company in your area.

Do I need to be a guest of the hotel to rent a bike?

No, all stations are open to the public!

Where should I ride?

All Spinway NorCal rental bikes are outfitted with custom maps directing you to the best local riding in the area. You can view our custom bike maps for each of our station locations here on our website.

How do I get a bike out of the kiosk?

Simply swipe your credit card at the self-serve kiosk and follow the on-screen instructions. For more details on this process, click here.

How do I return a bike?

You must return the bike to the station where you rented it. To return, simply push it firmly into the dock and listen for a click. Then try pulling it back out. If you can’t, you have successfully returned the bike.

Can I return my bike to a different station?

NO. All bikes must be returned to their original station or you will be charged a $30 per bike relocation fee; additionally, you will be liable if another bike is lost, stolen or damaged because you prevented another customer from properly returning their bike.

Troubleshooting

What if the bike I selected is damaged?

If you discover the bike you selected is damaged, pull it out and immediately return it back to the station. Swipe your same credit card again a the kiosk and select another bike.  You WILL NOT be charged twice. You can exchange bikes as many times as you want during the rental period you selected without any additional cost. Please call 707.947.3002 to report any bikes in need of repair.

What if I get a flat tire or have a mechanical issue?

Call us at 707.947.3002. Our phone number is also listed on your bike map. We will assist you in getting back on the road as soon as possible. In case of an emergency, call 911 first and then contact us as soon as you are out of immediate danger.

What if I’m unable to ride back to my original location?

We recommend planning ahead to avoid this scenario. Put simply: Don't ride farther than you can ride back. If you are in a situation where you are unable to ride back your station, your only option will be to call a local taxi and specifically request a vehicle with a bike rack. The front wheels on these bikes are difficult to remove and require special tools; thus, these bikes will not easily fit in the back of a car.  A list of taxi companies that have vehicles equipped with bike racks is available here

What if the dock won’t release a bike?

Swipe the same credit card again and select another bike.  You WILL NOT be charged twice. You can exchange bikes as many times as you want during the rental period you selected without additional charges. If there are no other bikes available, please call us at 707.947.3002.

The system isn't accepting my credit card.

We only accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Sorry, we do not accept Discover, Diners or any other card type.  If you are using Visa, Mastercard or American Express and the station is not accepting your card, call the customer service number located on the back of your credit card.

What if my bike is stolen?

Contact the local police station and report the bike as stolen.  The police will give you a reference number which you should then report to us by phone: 707.947.3002. You must provide us with a copy of the police report within seven (7) days of the incident.

If your bike is not returned within 24 hours or the bike is otherwise damaged beyond repair, the replacement cost of $900 will be charged directly to the credit card that was used to rent the bike.

What are the bikes like?

Tell me about the bike.

The bikes are 3-speed hybrid bikes designed for a comfortable and leisurely ride. The seat heights are easily adjustable (via quick release on the seat post) to fit most adults.

If you're looking for additional bike options such as carbon-fiber road bikes, kids bikes, tandem or electric bikes, refer to a local bike rental shop such as our partners: Napa Valley Bike Tours & Rentals or Sonoma Valley Bike Tours & Rentals

What equipment is included on the bike?

Bikes are equipped with a handlebar bag to carry your small personal items (e.g. wallet, phone, sunscreen, etc.) and a custom bike map of the local area. Helmets and locks are included (please see hotel staff). Note: Helmets and locks are not available at our Oxbow Public Market location; please plan to bring your own helmets or visit another station location.
